Report: Got out on the water around 530 in the morning. Was the first in the water. Used real egg sacs for about an hour, caught two trash fish, then went to plastic egg sacs, and got zero hits. Switched to cloth egg sacs, got zero hits. Walked across the river, and down around the bend and saw lots and lots of snagging goin' on. Vacated the premises with zero fish for the day, not much better at Dexter either. Had much better luck at Price Chopper, haha.

Report: Fished the Firemens lot today,(above ballpark)and was greeted by spurts of kings and coho all day.Numerous hookups, landed some lost some. Talked to a friend that fished there the day before and said they were nose to tail all day.Another guy I talked to had the same success at the 2a bridge. At 4:30 the sky opened up and poured. As I drove home through the deluge and got home to write this, the river is getting hammered by rain. Wish I could be there tomorrow! Good luck it should be good.

Date Fished: Thurs., 9/27
Location: DSR
Water Conditions: Low and warm

Report: Fished the DSR Thursday. It was warm and humid and the stream was warm and really low at 100 CFS. Despite the poor conditions, there were good numbers of both kings and cohos. However, many of the fish have little fight to them. You hook them up, they make a little run and they are spent. You have to revive them or they won't make it. With the low and warm water, they just have no where to go. I did get one king that fought like freight train; not sure where he came from.

The crowds down low were large, but not any larger as they normally would be this time of year.

It is sad to see upstream there is almost no action. There were only a handful of vehicles at the Sportsman Pool and at Pineville.

And what happened to the C&M Diner?? It was closed ...

Date Fished: 9/26/2007
Location: Little Salmon River/Mexico PT
Water Conditions: very low, very warm

Report: Just a update to the weekend fishheads heading to Mexico Point and Little Salmon River, Sage Creek, Grindstone Creek. The news is all bad. Very little rain, water levels very low, water very warm (like bath water). The fish are not surviving more than a day and what few do get above Cty. Rte. 16 are harassed to death by kids literally running them down on foot. Very few fish coming up and most turn back to Mexico Point at the lake end. Got some of the trees out of the river at the lower end (no thanks to any agency for their zero help). Recommend not wasting your time on the smaller tributaries anywhere. Current rain this week has almost no impact on the river/stream conditions.

Report: Fished DSR morning 9/24, small pods of kings and cohos came in slowly all day. We fished first pool at dsr a little before lower clay w/ guide. We were at our spot at 5:05-used a boat. All guides took choice spots. Caught a ton of hos and some nice steelhead, and some kings. Fished 8lb leaders w/ red estaz, purp, etc size 8-16 hooks. There were not alot of fish in estuary, and mostly kings, alot of hos are gone now. It looks like things are going to get worse, not better. Would not fish any higher than staircase. Fished ballfield on 9/25 and only 50 ho's ran through in the morning, steelehad would not hit anything. Fish are holding in big holes and not moving.
One of my recommendations would be to fish black hole, but go to beginning of pool, have to fight along edge of cliff, or come down from staircase with dsr pass, as no one on south side of the hole. Fish have been staging at black hole, then making runs up river at funny times like 11 am on 9/24. People at start of the pool had alot of fun for some time. Also, its important right now to be at your spot at 6 am or before, start fishing 30 min before sun comes up. After sun is up, fish shade lines.
Generally though, things are terribly slow, and based on the low #'s in est., it may take awhile. DSR may not be worth it for those without a guide, but if you have the cash. go to the bigger holes down river and try to get in where you can, maybe stand around and work in. Most guides done by 1 pm

Report: Fished the lake from 4:00am till around noon, waterwas flat with no wind, seems the fish moved out into 40' of water so we trolled from the light house to the grindstone then out to nomans land. Had 3 fish on a couple drive byes and 1 brown about 8lbs landed down in front of Selkirk. Very slow day, the brown came on a green and silver cleo flat lined about 80'back in 20'of water. We hit the river after dropping off the boat and found some cohos and a few chromers in the ball park so fish are trickling up everynight, my buddy did an 16lb coho in the lower ball park, what a beautiful fish, all kiped up and silver and purple, third Coho I have seen in the high teens. Someone do a rain dance for us, we need it bad but the fish will come with or without water sooner or later. Water temp in the lake was 64 degrees, 66 degrees up in the river. Good luck all, I am crashing for a couple hours and hitin the lake again at 4:00. Good luck all

Report: Just woke up from being on the lake all day yesterday and then turning around and heading out for some night fishing last night. During the day we did real well landing a bunch of kings trolling spoons, flat line and on riggersin 20'-30'feet of water 10'down. THe night trip was slow at best with some drive buys and a few hook ups and chase downs but no fish landed. I fished the river this morning and yes its low and ugly but theres a few fish around from the ball park to the little black. Doubles tonight and tomorrow so another report on thursday night or wed morn

Date Fished: 9/18/2007
Location: Little Salmon River/Mexico PT
Water Conditions: clear and steady flow

Report: Some Chinook Salmon activity just beginning. Some Fish are beginning to move up from Mexico Point area. The few fish I've seen are still silver and not darkening yet. Most fish that have come up in the last week are dying off due to low water and warm water temperatures. Have no seen or caught any other salmon species yet other than Kings. Most observed are "green" females which is unusual, normally males come up first and hang around waiting. Stream level is slowly dropping and the gravel bars are becoming more exposed limiting access up the river. Fish are running up mostly at night, once the sunlight hits the water they scatter either into holes or turn around and head back to deeper water between Mexico Point and the Rt 104 B bridge, then come back up at night. Boaters on the lake side the RT 104 B bridge should do well at this time.

Date Fished: Sept. 15 & 16, 2007
Location: Little Salmon River/Mexico PT
Water Conditions: clear, rising then falling water

     9/17/2007 12:23:55 PM   Report ID: 20251

Report: The rain brought clear water and about a 6-12 inch rise to the river over the weekend. Saturday was overcast with rain. The first King Salmon of the season were seen coming up from deep water to the shallow gravel areas. By Sunday afternoon some dead King Salmon were noticed floating back downstream. The water levels are dropping off fast since the rain quit. There are trees fallen down in the river along the five miles or so from Texas to Mexico. NO agencies from local to federal level will help the landowners cope with removing the trees from the river, making things very difficult. As the season progresses the downed trees will accumulate more debris, with deteriorating conditions for fisherman and landowners and of course negative impact on the spawning runs. I found dead King Salmon still in silver color tangled in tree branches. NOTE Kayakers will not be able to navigate the lower river through to Mexico Point.

Date Fished: 9/11/2007
Location: Little Salmon River/Mexico PT
Water Conditions: clearing, rising from rain runoff

     9/12/2007 12:00:05 PM   Report ID: 20209

Report: The recent rains have increased run off flow in the Little Salmon. Water is on average about 12 inches deep across the highest gravel bars. Enough for Salmon to pass upstream. No sign of fish coming upriver from Mexico Point yet. The rise and fall of the river is totally dependent on the amount and frequency of rain. The water is running clear but still warm. The conditions are about right for some fish to start coming in from Mexico Bay. Best bet still would be boat fishing off of the Mexico Point boat launch areas and fishing the lake side of the tributaries.

Date Fished: 9/8 & 9/9
Location: Little Salmon River/Mexico PT
Water Conditions: still low, murky, warm

     9/10/2007 9:42:44 AM   Report ID: 20185

Report: Got reports of fish moving in at Mexico Point. No fish came upriver all weekend, there was rain, but not enough, run off is minimal and no appreciable change in river flow. The Little Salmon River is very low, murky, and warm. Looks like boating at the lake end is the best bet at this point. There is rain forecasted on/off all week. If enough runoff happens, then should see some kind of run by next week (I hope). Some friends stopped at the hatchery in ALTMAR and reported quite a few already stacking up at the hatchery, including CHINOOK(KING), COHO, and BROWN TROUT.

Date Fished: Sun., Sept. 9

Report: Fished the DSR Sunday morning. It was about the lowest flow I ever saw this time of year. Despite the rain, a few fish were moving up early, then almost no fish on the move by 9:00 a.m. Very little action and many were leaving by lunch time.

The dead fish around shows there were more fish around earlier. It was odd seeing that many dead fish so early in the season.

Date Fished: 9/5/2007

Water Conditions: poor- low and dry

     9/6/2007 3:02:40 PM   Report ID: 20149

Report: Have received reports of fish in as little as 80 feet of water or less outside Mexico Point area. Nothing showing in the river. River is extremely low. The first gravel crossing coming up from channel (Rt104B and Cty Rt.16) is bone dry. If the river gets some rain water then the first "false" run will happen as soon as some cold water flushes the river. NEED RAIN. Also there is a fish virus confirmed by the DEC to exist in this river's fish, the first one found positive was a native run Rainbow. Have heard (but not seen) that King's are beginning to move up the Big Salmon River at Port Ontario.
