Report: The weather forcast said sleet, freezing rain and wind, so my brother and I figured it would be perfect for pluncking our butts in the river. I was glad we made the trip from Binghamton, I hooked up 6 times and landed 4,(3 steelies, and one brown) I love Salmon River.

Report: Simply had the best weekend fishing on the Salmon River for steelhead ever. Saturday started out with air temps below zero but the fishing warmed me up with a total of eight fish played and two landed. Two of the lost fish where bright fresh fish that put on quite a show.Sunday started out at about 8 degrees above. Fishing started off slow but I finally got into them around 10:30 and when I quit at 2:00 PM for the long ride home I was 11 on with 5 landed. Most of Saturdays fish took egg sacks while Sundays fish all came on Black stone flies. The best part of the weekend was being able to help two service men from Fort Drum, they didn't need much help before Vernon from NC tied into his first ever steelhead and landed the 32" hen that had to weigh close to 14 lbs. His buddy form Virginia was next hooking up twice and landed the second fish. It was hooked just outside the mouth, we all thought it was a good hook during the fight because of the control he had being able to turn the fish. This gentelman had no trouble releasing his first ever steelhead and even declined having a picture taken with the fish in favor of keeping it in the water and releasing it as soon as possible. By the way, Vernon's hen was dropping eggs. Hope to be back on the river in late February.
