Report: From Altmar into the DSR, the river is almost completely fishable (use caution) with some tough walking in the snow. Traditional fly fishing time is becoming more available as we’re see more days above freezing air temps. Anglers are reporting good action, meaning a few hookups daily. Time to fish the whole river again. Remember, the longer the walk may result in finding better and undisturbed fishing. March and more consistent above freezing daytime temps are just around the corner, so it's time to dust off the fly rods. Please safely release fish for future fishing!

Report: Salmon River Report Feb. 5:

Current weather forecast looks good for some of next weeks dates.

Today could be explained in only 3 words. A "Day for KINGS!"
5 for 15 was the tally at days end. (Not that Im bragging or anything) Just want to give you an idea of the numbers of fish that are around.
1 for 4 is about average landing ratio for the normal guy that fish's once in awhile, so we really did not do to bad. (Especially considering the rod was not in my hands , just kidding

We hit fish in 2 out of 3 spots. The one spot we did not find any was only fished for about 20 minutes. We left fish to find fish today. The 2 holes we found them in were loaded. We could have stayed and played with more, but wanted to leave some for the rest of you. (Ya, right
We did not even scratch the surface of all the fishable spots we drifted past, after anchoring and giving my guest's a though understanding of each individual current break and prime lies in each location. They were smart enough to bring a pad of paper and pen to take notes to further their quest for rock solid information concerning structure-habitat and prime current breaks the fish use when in transition and holding waters. There were no test's given today by me, but I think the fish know who passed.

Report: Pulaski New York Steelhead Salmon River Report Feb. 2:

Digging out! Pulaski roads are clear, they are working on the Salmon River fisherman parking lots presently. All should be back in order today. Come on up!

Steelhead are being caught by the few brave soles braving the snow and cold temp's!

Warming trend arriving Monday through the entire week into weekend at present. Good time to go fishing if weather cooperates and does not change. This Sundays trip canceled. Concentrate only in the deepest holes in the river for best odds of hooking up.

Best fishing at present (in my opinion) would be any area that has been unfishable due to slush over the last several weeks. Many of these area's presently will only be (possibly) available to be fished during a narrow window between the day's slush pattern's in the mid. - lower river. Approx. mid morning until mid afternoon. Sometimes these area's can and do hold VERY good number's of Steelhead at this time of the year for many reason's

Same ol, same hole - to report on the river. Nothing has changed much. Still lots of slush, anchor ice, shelf ice around. Upper river open, mid river open sometimes, lower river has not been fishable by much at all recently due to all of the above factors. Fish are top to bottom.
Once again I'd fish as low in the river as possible. (Tends to hold the least educated fish, easiest to catch.)

Good Luck,
Randy jones
