Date Fished: Never Ending 11/29
Location: Salmon River
Water Conditions: 617 cfs approx with run-off

Report: Monday:
We recieved a fair amount of rain and run-off yesterday and the real time flow on the Salmon River at 3:20 am Monday was 617 cfs at the Pinneville gauge. M-M Good! Add in Trout Brook and any remaining run-off from the town area and I'd guess about (750cfs approx. in the DSR). Major spike on all Lake Ontario Trib's. and starting to drop slowly. Lots of great options to choose from presently.
Look for fresh steelhead entering the lower river and other good spots to be fishing better now with this higher flow than before.

Some good spots (current breaks) do not fish all that well when the water is low. The reason being is the current break actually does not effect the fish because the water is moving so slow that the fish have no need to use it. Once the water rises then this current break makes a difference to the fish and causes them to use it. So, I have normally good spots that are useless when the water flow is 335 cfs or less. But become more useful when the water rises. The same goes for other spots that will only hold fish in certain other flows. So all of these places to fish, can and do change as the water level does. Good example would be some of the larger pools in the Fall, early Winter. Low water, they sit towards the head more, 1 gate of water or so and they will sit a lil further back in the middle. Add in 2-3 gates of water and that will put most of them all the way into the tail of the pool. (Least resistance or increased value of the current break to the fish, allowing them to use less energy) There are exceptions to the above.

There are fish top to bottom of river. Covering your water thoroughly is key, then move.

Best Fish's,
Randy Jones

Report: my previouse 2 years of salmon fishing made me want to try steelies so i did we arrived at the fly fishing zone at 8:00 and was in the water by 8:30 a person was already into a steeli and managed to land him i fished 30minuts till i had my first fish on a fly rod. well it sure wasnt a sellie it was a ugly sucker that i some how hooked in the dorsal fin with a oragon egg pattern. the hook came out thankfully becuase there was no way i was touching that thing then 15 minuts later of fishing i hooked into a small stelli about 2-3 pounds but got off in a matter of 10 seconds after that i didnt see one more hook up around me so we cruised home

Date Fished: november 16-18

Report: Hit the pineville pool and the trestle yesterday and today, didnt seem to be many steelies around, but enough so that iw asnt bored, and there were VERY few people to, managed a 6 lb brown and 2 8-10 lb steelies in the pineville pool, and in the trestle had 5 hookups in 3 hours, but only managed 2 steelies, possibly 12 lbs a piece. Would reccomend to all fishermen that spin fish to use Pink egg sacs, for that is all i used and had average luck, would like to know the fishing at the "sock hole" let me know about the action there, also one more piece of info, if you go to the trestle, it seems to be that the fish are holding right bleow the middle pillar where the bridge was, give it a try and let me know how you fare, tight lines

Can anybody give an encouraging report?

Report: I don't want to know which pool holds how many fish and what color floozy fly worked on a given day, I just would like a general report to base my decisions upon.
"no ice, lots of water, fish finnicky, had luck today with dark flies,", stuff like that.
If you need to know what fly to use in which hole in order to make a decision to come up, then I suggest you hire someone a couple of times, and PAY ATTENTION to the guy, when you do.

Report: Hey great idea! Don't post reports. So that the guys driving five hours from out of state and, pumping two times the money into the your fish program. Not to mention your state economy. Don't get excited enough to come hook and release YOUR fish. So when those of us who are dumb enough to spend the forty bucks for the tag and forty bucks on gas and twenty more for food, that's one hundred dollars for the ones that are counting. To dive up there and find blown out water or no fish, decide to stop coming. In a few years when that money is not going in your program and, the fishing is not as good as it is. You to can enjoy a day on the water without a single bit or seeing a single fish.
