Report: Fished for 4 days and had a great time. Mornings irronically were not that good on the main river. Evenings seemed great. Fresh fish came through on the 18th but kept on trucking. Everyone says season is over but could not prove that to me. Also went to Oswago little i believe for the first time. I figure all those fresh fish kept on going until they got to the little streams b/c it was loaded in my eyes.

See ya next year.

Report: Lower fly area absolutely loaded with fish, many already of the Calico hue. Sunday was surprisingly crowded, but many fish were caught. Monday was a gorgeous day, sunny high 50s and again crowded but everybody caught plenty. The upper fly area is not the same as past years; Relatively many fewer fish, but the lower area is loaded. Tuesday, another great day for catching fish but the weather turned sour with increasing wind and rain. By noon, a combination of the driving wind-driven rain and the huge number of leaves in the water made for very poor conditions, only for the very patient and hardy. This time of year the upper area should have more fish than the lower. Something is very amiss.

Report: Rainy day. On an off showers seemed to really make a lot of fish move up. Lots of salmon in the straits just below Schoolhouse pool. Spawning was active. Even "first timers" were going home with a good sized catch. Littler fish around 15" were running around the same areas of 2 foot depth (Steelies?) Wish you were there today. You'd have to be really lazy not to catch one today.

Report: Fished the upper stretch of the SR. It rained and sleeted, the wind blew and the sun made a brief apperance. There were amazingly few people where we were and it was great. We were 9 of way to many to count. Between my brother and I we had at least 40 hookups. One of the nine was a beautiful male coho that was decked out in his best spawning colors. At least 2 of the fish lost were steelhead and one brown. Great day.

THE OSWEGO WAS RUNNING PERFECT AND THE SALMON NUMBERS WERE HIGH. THERE WAS PLENTY OF STEELHEADS AND TROUT THROUGHOUT THE RIVER. THE NIGHT SPOT DID NOT PRODUCE ANY FISH FOR ANYONE. MY SALMON RANGED FROM 20 - 29 POUNDS. HATS OFF TO THE BALD GUIDE, A TRUE PROFFESSIONAL. FISH - ON !!!!!!

Report: Monday thru Thursday, fished from sunup to about 10 a.m. each day, fish moving both up and down stream, older fish are coming back down and starting to turn white patches. Newer fish moving up in small groups (2 to 6 fish) at a time. They are taking their time instead of the usual blast on thru routine. Fishing is steady from sunrise till around 10:30 a.m., then it gets sporadic. Fish seek holes with daylight on the water. If you are willing to put the waders & korkers on, then walking the stream will produce plenty of action for you.

Report: There were just as many people as salmon...well more salmon!! Fished the small tributaries all weekend. At first light there were fish everywhere, then as the morning progressed..fished moved into the deeper holes. Our group hooked into plenty of fish and landed a few. I wasnt going to deal with the crowds at the big holes, too many snaggers...the DEC sure brought in a lot of revenue!! time for hunting season!!

Report: So far dawn fishing is almost a waste of good sleeping time. Fish are coming up at nite. Very few fish seen between sunrise and about 9:00 or 10:00 a.m. As soon as sunlight hits the water the lower end fish turn back to deep water. I have even seen 2 or 3 salmon heading back down stream by about 9:30 a.m. This is near the span between RT104B and RT16 in Texas. The run is way behind normal, and the quantity of fish is low. Checked at the High School chute at RT104 in Mexico, fish still have not made it that far. The water has cleared up, and the level is dropping, averaging about knee deep. Saw only two small brown trout in a 1000 yard stretch on Sunday morning. Monday 10/9 in the morning hours nothing moving up from the deep water. Have not heard any reports on SAGE, GRINDSTONE, or CATFISH which are all within a few miles of where I live. Very strange year. Guess I'll have to gear up for some quality time on one of the big rivers.

Report: A buddy of mine went to the Salmon River on Thursday night and stayed at the Schoolhouse in. That place is awesome and the owners are great! It's right across from the schoolhouse pool and you can walk to your fishing spot! In the morning we fished the schoolhouse down river a bit, the action was crazy. It seemed like every couple of minutes someone in the area we were fishing had a fish on! There were even times were 3 guys had fish on at the same time. My buddy hooked two and lost both. I hooked one and landed one. The guy to the right of us hooked at least 15 or more and landed about 4-5 and the guy to the left of us hooked about 10 and landed 2. The fish in the river this year seem to be HUGE and with the water running high and fast it wasn't easy to land fish. After lunch we headed over to Orwell Brook because we got a tip from a local that guys were catching their limit within minutes! We thought, yea right, but tried it anyway. We had fished their before a few years ago and hated it. This time we tried a different spot on the brook and the local was not bullsh@#$ing! I found a small hole under a tree up brook and my second cast I landed a 20-30lb King, and believe it or not it wsa a fair hook!(probably just luck right) My next cast to the same hole, FISH ON! This was a flowl hook and was released, and was about the same size! A few more casts another fish on and the fight was on! Nothing like the river but almost as fun. The fish took off down brook and kept going. I stayed in one spot, becaue I didn't want to lose my hole, as the brook was packed full of fishermen, and actually landed the bad boy! This was by far the biggest King I had ever caught and he was hooked in the mouth! Needless to say my buddy and I stayed at Orwell for about 4 hours and caught 30 or more fish and that is not bull. We probably lost even more fish by a line snap or the hook coming out. It was insaine. Again, it is not as fun as fishing on the river, or takes nearly as much skill, but it is fun. Oh, my buddy caught his limit within 20 minutes all fair hooks. The guys up brook from us were sitting in a much larger hole with litterally hundreds of fish! Going back up next weekend to fish the Schoolhouse again and might hit Orwell in the early morning.

Report: Good number of fish. Had plenty of hook ups and a load of fun. Landing was a different issue. Fish are big and mean this year. Saw 7 different guys hook up (all good hooks) with 7 different colors and patterns so just about anything is working. Caught a nice 7lb Steelhead on a wollybugger and lost another bigger one using the same.

Report: fished saturday and sunday to alot of moving fish in a lot of water. lots of hookups in fast water.comment on the "liftinf/snagging" we all lift at the end of a drift. the rules seam to change every year. it is all in the opinion of the officer as to weather you are snagging or not. i employ a similar method of short cast/short drift fishing but less aggressive on the lift than most. in fast water it works and hooks fish in the mouth.

Report: Caught tons of fish with "EXPERT GUIDE SERVICE". Highly recomended. Wanted to comment on snagging. I do the same, as the report i just read on here. I swing with 15' on line and lift and do a half circle swing and drop in the water. I don't need to strip. They say if you don't strip you are trying to snag. BULL. My way is faster and easier and has less chance of snagging. A few years ago i was hammering the salmon in DSR and catching 10 in the mouth for every one i snagged fishing this way. I was fishing a slot in heavy water, couldn't see any fish. I got pullled out of the water and warned for snagging. They couldn't tell me how i was breaking the law, they said i have to be snagging, because "NO ONE IS THAT GOOD" to catch that many fish without cheating. So i told him, "GUESS WHAT? I AM THAT GOOD" While all around guys are ripping away. Go figure.

Report: Buddy of mine (Mike)and me made the trip up for two days of fishing. Fished the Trestle pool Monday because the reports for Sunday said the lower end of the river was slow. We heard a lot of fish came in Friday and Saturday, so we assumed the fishing would be best up river. We had a lot of hook ups, but I only landed 2 (Kings)and Mike landed 0. They were snapping 15lb P-Line!!! Freakin' animals!!!! Tuesday was a little slower. We still managed to hook up quite a bit and I landed 2 and Mike finally landed one (Kings). I weighed my "monster" at the "Fish On" cleaning station and the scale said 36 lbs. The guy came out and said that can't be right!!! Turns out the scale was 2 lbs off, but still, a 34 lb King was my best to date and it was an amazing fight. Got some smoked salmon from Fish On and it was excellent. We also fished the Staircase late Tuesday before we left and had one hook up. SNAP. and that was it. I got wanrned by DEC for snagging. I was not aware that I was doing so. I lift my rod at the end of my drift and I guess thats considered snagging??? I saw people all day cast and rip their pole sideways several times while they reel in. I wasn't even close to doing this, and I get warned??? Bull#*#*!!!! Can someone explain what DEC looks for when ticketing snaggers? I've been fishing this way for 6 years now up there and never been warned.

Report: thursday and Friday with the new rain, fish finally started running. Fish scattered all over the river with so much water. Saturday and Sunday spend several hours on the river near RT104B in Texas, nothing moving. By Monday the water started to recede and clear up more, nothing coming up from the deep water. Yogi Bear (Flatrock) Camp Ground said fish came up river the day after the heavy rain on Thursday or Friday. More rain coming, maybe that will shake them loose.

Report: From this same website, I copy this info for JWicky, who maybe there's a chance, misidentified his fish as an Atlantic.

The last recorded Atlantic salmon at Pulaski was found in 1872. It is generally believed the extirpation of Atlantic salmon was the result of a number of factors, including over-fishing, pollution, introduction of exotic species into the lake...

it's a whole different story in this higher water. THe fish are moving but they're not interested in eating. I went all the way up to the fishery / hatchery and seeing the salmon log jams forming in the stream just about where it goes up the ladder, I figured THIS is the place to catch one if you were a snagger. I tried portions of the river in the fly only zone and Sportsman's pool. Too crowded on the banks! As we know, get there early. That's when most anglers said they had caught 2 or more fish there on Saturday. By noon it was quite slow.

Report: We fished the upper Black Hole Thursday morning and managed 1 nice king out of 3 total hookups. Moved to Altmar for the afternoon and got nothing. Friday more of the same. Fished Ellis Cove, the Bovines, the Trestle and the upper Black Hole again. Did manage 2 small (16 & 18 inches) but very pretty rainbows. Fished the railroad pool on Saturday morning and had a great time. Had maybe 30 hookups (3 fisherman) but only landed 2. Did catch a 11 inch Atlantic which was kind of neat. Overall it was slow up until Saturday then all heck broke loose. Should be good this week I would think. Enjoy.
