Report: Arrived Sun, fished ballfield had a few hookups and landed 3, Not to bad. Monday was better at tressel, landed 9 well over 30 hookups. That evening river went from 335 to 750. Back to tressel on Tues, Fish in river but were moving fast, few hookups, landed one, more fish in feeder streams, hard to fight with all logs in water. Wed Best Day for fish worst day for weather due to rain, Went to Altmar. River thick with fish, even bumped into them crossing. Lots of hookup and landings, arms were hurting at end of day, Best fishing day in over five years for our group. That evening at Fat Nancys found out they were asing river again. Fished in town by second bridge still had hookups. Saw really nice brown trout caught, was able to see its weight and it was just under 12 pounds. Pretty sure the faster water will mess up the key weekend for the local business's

Report: Friday: rainy day, high water, a lot of fish in the river and a lot of hook ups,
Saturday: perfect sunny day, plenty of powerful fresh kings, it was "hot-soup" day, every 3 minutes "fish on!!" then "coming up!!" or "coming down!!"...
less in the afternoon, but still very good.
Sunday... slower day, good action in the morning, then not so great.
Lures: estaz flies and sponges, also egg sacks but less effective.

Report: Brown Trout in July at the Oswego River. This is the craziest thing I have seen. For last two weeks up at the Dam it has been nuts. The numbers of them are simply shocking. To the people who salmom fish up there the browns are jumping on the dam. Like I said its crazy. I dont know what brought them up there I have'nt seen any large numbers of shad or bait fish. I have fished the river for 30 yrs what hell his going on.

Report: As most of you know the fishing has been reeeel good for most anglers.
-
All presentational tec. are working, some more productive than other's, which is very normal. As long as you are achieveing your 80% presentation, 10% rigging and 10% habitat, your day will be fish filled.
-
We presently have fish coming in, preparing to spawn, pairing up, spawning and even some drop backs. Look for this to continue thru March and then April look for the balance to be on the rock and droppinig back.
-
With this being another year like last, its easy to forecast a reeel nice Spring. Lot's of fish around. My guest's have been averaging approx. doz. fish per outing. Sometimes less, sometimes more :)
-
For your best fishing, I'd persoanally recommend fishing where you have a gravel influence above, even with and below where you are fishing for obvious reason's. This what myself and many other seasoned anglers - guides do in the Fall and Spring. Or, when ever we have fish laying egg's - eating egg's.
-
The fish are all pairing up as we speak so dont be surprised if you hit several fish on the exact same drift. Each female could have up to 5-6 bucks hanging around here, hopeing to get layed :)
So,,,, If I land a female at this time of the year I put her back asap (no pictures) WHY? She is the bait and the sole reason all of those bucks are around. If you mess with that female, then all of those bucks have no reason to hang around and will disappear. If Im sight fishing then I always leave the female alone. Why? She is spawning so let her B. Also, the bucks well all leave if you mess with her. If I accedentially hook her I break her off as fast as you can blink an eye. If done fast enouph, correctly, she wont even know she was hooked. There by keeping all of those buck's around to cast at and have fun with!
-
All holes are holding, top to bottom. All of the transitional resting points are producing. All area's will continue to produce for you the rest of the season.
-
Look for this season to last into at least the first week of May. Normally longer. Mother nature will determine this.
-
I hope this complementary info. has entertained, helped a lil.
Best Fish's,
Randy
P.S. I have some good Steelhead articles, tips, pics, forecast's, updates, etc... if your a new viewer. Ramblings galore if you like to read. It may help you on your next trip up here or at least entertain you :)

Report: Well folks, New York state is making an attempt to squeeze more money out of our enjoyment.

In the news:
Fishing off New York's coast would no longer be free and casting your line for trout and salmon would cost more if lawmakers back Gov. David Paterson's plan for new conservation fees next year.

The administration's budget proposal contains a new marine fishing license for saltwater that would cost the same as the current freshwater license - $19 a year for a state resident. A new mandatory trout and salmon stamp would cost $10.

Report: The Steelhead fishing on the Salmon is still very good, with multiple hook ups being had by most anglers
The fish are spread through out the river and are beginning to load up in their normal wintering spots although there are still plenty of transitional fish in the fast water
Egg sacks and trout beads under the floats have been working best and for the fly guys Dead drifting Egg patterns in various colors along with nymphs has been good as has swinging wet flies in the tail outs of larger pools

Report: took my buddy on his first salmon trip by days end he didnt manage any landed but a lot of hook ups and a great time.I managed three by the end of the day egg sacks and single eggs later in the day.I got a nice steely at day break and had an a nice brown later on but as luck had it he took hook line and sinker and went on his way.Very interesting trip a couple guys at the damn very tuned in by about nine am and fishing with turtle hooks quite effective that had to be one of the funniest things i seen this trip a lot of the fish looked like decorated vetrans and some more like pow's had one break off in front of my buddy and I that a guy downstream had hooked up it was cut from the gill to the pee hole deep enough when it jumped eggs flew on the wall walkway my buddy about fell in laughing dont know what those boys had on but it was serious.I read a lot about people snagging and others getting upset about it out of the army at the dam over half were snagging lifting whatever but what i saw was a large group of people having a blast a time most of them will never forget and they are from all over i met a man from florida a man from germany and a lot from sothern pa and new jersey all having a great time at one time i thought we were in japan we were surrounded by vacationers taking pictures and shaking hands.I guess im trying to say take it for what it is you always have the prick three guys up from you yelling at the kids above us on the wall yea buddy we were all kids once. I think something like salmon fishing should be fun if you take that away you may as well stay home.We ended the day at one of my personal favs Jay's fish cleaning they are all a great bunch there and i like to watch jay clean those fish i have to say he is the fastest knife in upstate new york he had a deformed male salmon head the lower jaw was split and one side curled up clear to the gill very strange. It was a great trip loads of fun and still some nice fish and the fresh steelhead are moving in tight lines to all.

Report: Rained all day Tuesday......managed a couple salmon and one nice steelie...my father managed a salmon or two
Wednesday......no rain, but very cold....managed 3 salmon and my father managed a few salmon--one 22 pound Coho and one 25 pound King (both put on scale)......he also lost a huge female King below the wire in the UFZ
Thursday---fished late morning...I had no hookups.....father caught one steelie and one nice coho

Fished the Upper Fly Zone most of the time.....not as many fish as years past for these dates.....but, there were a few salmon around and a small, very small push of fish hit the upper fly zone on wednesday afternoon.....

managed a few foul hooks, which were promptly broken off.....flies used: large red and orange stoneflies, sucker spawn and various colored eggs.........cream color with some pink worked the best....caught one or two on black wooly bugger........

there are some salmon in the lower fly zone and a few steelhead........did see some nice browns caught Tuesday in the upper fly zone

watched 2 guys in the UFZ blatantly snagging fish....they were in the slower water that empties into the wire hole---one guy had one on...then the other...I started clapping...they both looked back.....they left....what a bunch of goofs....I also saw a guy with a spinning rod walking the shoreline of the UFZ.....???? what the heck??? seriously, he was holding a spinning rod with a spinning reel......

I used switch rods for the first time......Beulah 10.5 foot 9/10 wt awesome
Winston 11 foot 7 wt w/ Elixer Fly Line--freakin' rocket launcher........insane rod!!!

slower than usual for our annual trip, but who could complain--the fish were there, they just did not want to snap at anything--most of the fish were doing their thing----but every now and then........Fish on........and the drag was screamin

Report: Reply to Tbronder: Fished the Oak Sunday - Tuesday loaded with Salmon the whole way, didn't see any steelies or browns taken. I was told the other tribs you mentioned were all low and in need of rain by several other anglers. Egg patterns and olive buggers were the ticket for us. If you want to play with the kings the fishing is good now. If you want the browns or steelies I was told by many to give it a little time yet.

Report: For the "rip & skip" crowd, Orwell Brook is the place. Personally, that stream should be closed to all salmon fishing. It is a joke. Half the guys do not have anything on their hooks and the vast majority are snatching, bline snatching, or lifting at best. Cars parked everwhere. What a joke.

South Sandy Creek is a pleasure to fish. Most every day the fish were moving for an hour at daylight and almost two hours before dark. On 10-08 three of us hook over a hundred fish and landed 15. The brush piles usually won.

A lot of fish were spawning way below the falls, and many fish were not fresh ones. No Cohos, one 8 lb. steelie, and a lot of Kings.

Salmon River had a lot of fish in DSR on 10-11, but no jumping fish and hardly any boats in estuary. Something is fishy there!
